In association with the Injury Prevention Center at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, she studied risk behaviors in a cohort of urban students. Additionally, she studied the effects of predation on cell proliferation in the brains of weakly electric fish. Her interest in research began after high school where she studied ticks and Lyme disease as a research intern at the Ginsberg Entomology lab at the University of Rhode Island. As a Research Coordinator, she conducts all study procedures for Understanding Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PI: Noah S. Philip, MD), a NIMH R01-funded project that investigates the efficacy of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Veterans through magnetic resonance imaging and neuropsychological evaluations. Before CfNN, Ms. Cilli served as an undergraduate Research Assistant in the Ballif Lab at the University of Vermont investigating mechanisms of retina development. She also interned at Rhode Island Hospital’s Partial Hospitalization Program in 2019 and served as CfNN’s Focus Area 2 (FA2) intern from 2020-2021.

During her undergraduate years, she mainly worked on COVID-19 related projects due to the timing of the pandemic. Her first role was as a COVID-19 testing assistant at Brandeis University (Waltham, MA), where she spent the first two years of her undergraduate career. After transferring to UML, she worked as a student research assistant on two different studies: one aimed to build a biorepository of COVID-19 samples, while the other study focused on using GIS mapping to explore health markers such as fall risks, healthy eating, and physical activity in older adults.

Dr. Capone is a clinical psychologist whose primary research interests are in the treatment of co-occurring posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorders (SUD) in military veterans. Dr. Capone received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Rhode Island. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at Brown’s Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS), she accepted a position as PTSD-SUD Specialist at the Providence VA Medical Center. Through her work with veterans, Dr. Capone became interested in treatments that address moral injury and trauma-related guilt and shame. Currently, Dr. Capone is PI on a Department of Defense randomized, clinical trial of Trauma Informed Guilt Reduction (TrIGR) therapy with Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans. This study was recently extended in order to pilot the same intervention related to guilt stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Capone also recently launched a pilot trial of stellate ganglion block (SGB) paired with exposure therapy for combat-related PTSD. This study is funded by CfNN and represents Dr. Capone’s continuing commitment to studying innovative and adjunctive treatments for PTSD and comorbid conditions.

Dr. Rasmussen was a member of the second graduating class of the PLME program and received his MMS and MD from Brown Medical School in 1977. He completed his residency in psychiatry at Yale in 1983. Following a two-year obligation with the National Health Services Corps in North Kingdom Vermont, Dr. Rasmussen joined the Brown faculty and Butler Hospital in 1983. He has been the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University since 2009 and was previously the Medical Director at Butler Hospital from 1998 – 2012. Dr. Rasmussen is an internationally recognized expert in the course and treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Dr. Bozzay researches risk processes of suicide and violence, leveraging experimental (i.e., laboratory and ambulatory tasks) and psychophysiological methodologies (i.e., EEG/ERP). She is particularly interested in developing tools to identify which suicidal patients are at risk of experiencing an acute suicidal crisis, and time periods of increased risk. Sascha Morris received a BS in Neuroscience and Biology from Brown University. His undergraduate research aimed to understand neuromuscular control of flying mammals. He was also involved in projects on biologically inspired robotic modeling, as well as technology for concussion recognition. Since joining the CfNN, he has focused on data analysis and implementation of studies involving noninvasive neuromodulation as a therapy for affective disorders such as depression and PTSD. This research involves Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) alongside electroencephalography (EEG) for recording neural signals. Alongside members of both the CfNN and the Jones Lab at Brown University, Sascha studies patterns and signatures of brain activity from the macro-scale to biophysical level. This translational effort aims to understand neurological disorders and their treatment in order to ultimately improve rehabilitation for Veterans and all those affected.

Prior to joining CfNN, he received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Binghamton University (Binghamton, NY), participating in research focusing on alcohol and addictive behavior. Jon then took a post-baccalaureate research assistant position at The Fenway Institute (Boston, MA) for three years, where he assisted with studies and produced research related to LGBT physical and mental health. In 2016, Jon began his PhD in clinical psychology at Clark University (Worcester, MA), where his research has focused on men’s mental health and sexual behavior. Immediately before taking a position in CfNN, he spent nearly a year working as a clinical practicum student at the Collaborative Addiction & Recovery Services (CARS) at the Providence VA. Through this position, he developed a clinical and research interest in substance-use disorders. In future endeavors, Jon hopes to integrate this interest with his previous graduate work in men’s mental and sexual health.
